Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
LI ToolBox operates litoolbox.com, an online directory connecting Long Island homeowners with local service Pros. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account registration: name, email, hashed password, phone, role.
- Pro profile: business name, trade, description, location, license number, insurance status, social links, avatar, portfolio.
- Homeowner submissions: service request details and photos, plus the contact information (such as name, town, email, and phone) and contact preferences you choose to share so Pros can respond.
- Reviews and messages you post.
- Payment details (Pros): collected directly by Stripe — we never see your full card number.
- Verification documents you upload for review.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: pages visited, searches, time on site.
- Device data: IP address, browser, OS.
- Cookies (see below).
- Location: only when you explicitly request "Use my location".
3. How We Use Your Information
To operate the Service, facilitate connections between homeowners and Pros, send transactional and marketing emails (you can opt out of the latter), improve the product, prevent fraud, and comply with legal requirements.
4. How the Homeowner–Pro Connection Works
LI ToolBox is a directory. When you (a homeowner) submit a service request, send a message, or select a Pro, we share the details of that request and the contact information you provide — such as your name, town, and the contact methods you have allowed — with the Pro(s) you are contacting or who receive your request, so they can respond to you. We honor the contact preferences you set on each request. Pros are independent businesses; once your information is shared with a Pro, their use of it is governed by their own practices and is outside our control.
5. Who Else We Share With
Apart from the Pros you choose to contact (Section 4), we share personal information only with: service providers that operate the Service on our behalf (for example Stripe for payments, and our email, hosting, and analytics providers — under confidentiality obligations); law enforcement or others when required by law or to protect rights and safety; and an acquirer in the event of a merger, sale, or other business transfer. We do not sell your personal data.
6. Data Retention
- Account data: until deleted, plus 30 days in backups.
- Transactional records: up to 7 years for legal/tax compliance.
- Reviews: retained as long as the Pro is listed; anonymized if the homeowner deletes their account.
- Analytics: up to 180 days.
- Verification documents: until expiration or 90 days post-account-close.
7. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your data, and to opt out of marketing. Exercise them through your privacy dashboard or by emailing privacy@litoolbox.com. Note that once you have shared your details with a Pro, you may also need to contact that Pro directly regarding information they hold.
8. Cookies & Tracking
We use strictly-necessary cookies (login, CSRF, feature toggles), preference cookies (view mode, dismissed banners), and first-party analytics. No third-party cross-site tracking.
9. Security
We use commercially reasonable safeguards: HTTPS, hashed passwords, access controls. No system is 100% secure.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy and may require re-acceptance of material changes before you continue using the Service.
